A senior officer that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker was granted the King's Commendation for Bravery.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a traffic accident in the area in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Policeman stabbed," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam footage made public by the police department revealed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife extended.

He collided with the policeman who tripped and went down to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his neck and further cuts to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster suffered slash wounds.

Authorities reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's blood loss prior to medical personnel arrived.

The new recognition arrives subsequent to the three officers won internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area officer association in early 2024.
