Football Roundup: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Dominant Display Wins Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets still had possession with a opportunity to drive for a possible winning score. But Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn stated following the contest.
