Significant Internet Outage Affects Numerous Sites and Apps

A widespread online outage has disrupted numerous websites and mobile apps globally, with users experiencing troubles accessing the internet due to difficulties at Amazon’s online infrastructure platform.

The disrupted platforms encompass the social media app Snapchat, the gaming platform Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, in addition to multiple Amazon-operated services such as its key e-commerce platform and the Ring home security firm.

Throughout Britain, Lloyds bank was disrupted along with its branches Halifax and the Scottish bank, and additional accounts of issues using the HMRC website on that morning. Additionally in Britain, multiple Ring customers used networks to state their security devices were failing.

In the UK alone, notifications of problems on specific apps ran into the thousands for each app.

Amazon reported that the problem began in the Atlantic coast of the US at the cloud division, a division that offers vital web framework for numerous companies, who rent out resources on AWS infrastructure. The cloud platform is the most extensive cloud computing service.

Just after midnight (PDT) in the United States (8am BST), officials reported “higher failure rates and slowdowns” for the cloud services in a zone on the eastern US of the United States. The widespread consequence was seen to disrupt services worldwide, and the outage tracking website showing problems with the same sites in various regions.

The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a service that reports on web disruptions, also reported a increase in outages on Monday morning, with many of them situated in Virginia, the region of Amazon’s US-East-1 region where the company stated the issues started.
